At Chailey Heritage Foundation, we believe that caring for our environment is part of caring for our community. This National Wildlife Day, we’re proud to share some of the ways we support local wildlife and promote sustainability across our site. National Wildlife Day 2025 🦋 Rewilding & Green SpacesAround our car parks and grounds, we’ve allowed areas to grow wild, encouraging biodiversity and creating safe habitats for insects and small animals. You might spot signs from Steve marking these rewilded zones!🐦 Bird Boxes & FeedersWe’ve installed bird boxes and feeders near the school and bungalows, helping local bird populations thrive and giving our young people the joy of watching wildlife up close.🌼 Gardens & Green RoofsOur herb and flower gardens add beauty and biodiversity, while the newly refurbished green roof at St Martin’s helps insulate the building and supports pollinators.🌍 Sustainable Energy & Waste PracticesWe’re excited to be installing 520 solar panels, each generating up to 440W of renewable electricity. On sunny days, the system will produce over 200kW, and across the year, around 220,000 kWh—reducing our CO₂ emissions by 43 tonnes annually.♻️ Eco-Friendly OperationsWe recycle across the site, use food waste bins, and even donate shredded paper to local animals. At the farm, a wild pond and bug hotel provide a haven for insects and amphibians.💧 Cleaner SwimmingOur swimming pool uses UV technology to reduce chlorine use—better for swimmers and the environment.Every small step helps protect our planet and enriches the lives of the young people we support. Happy National Wildlife Day!
