Exploring Local History & Nature 🌿A group of wonderful Chailey Heritage Foundation volunteers enjoyed an informative and inspiring walk across Red House Common, led by William, Chair of Chailey Commons Society.Along the way, the group discovered fascinating facts about the Common’s history, the incredible variety of trees and fungi, and the special links to Chailey Heritage.Volunteers also had exclusive access to Chailey Windmill so they could explore the rural museum display and learn more about its place in the community. The group discovered that the nearby yew tree marks the very centre of Sussex - allegedly! Also, that this a “mast year” for acorns 🍂After soaking up the autumn colours, the volunteers rounded off the morning with delicious cake and refreshments at GK’s Café ☕🍰Our Volunteer Coordinator Sharon said:“It was great for volunteers to spend time together in a different environment and to learn more about the local area. We’re very grateful to Chailey Commons Society for facilitating the event.”A huge thank you to everyone involved for making it such a special and memorable outing! 💜
