Residential care for young adults

Chailey Heritage Futures is a residential care service for young adults aged 19 to 25 with complex disabilities, who are managing multiple physical, medical and communication needs. We develop the life skills needed in preparation for adulthood.

Nestled in the heart of the Sussex countryside, our bungalows are surrounded by plenty of green space - perfect for exploring and getting outdoors in nature.

Our partnership with NHS Chailey Clinical Services, who are located on-site, means that 24/7 nursing support is available to young adults - whenever they need it. They can access neurological consultants, nurses, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation engineers - all on one site.

Every young adult is individual, and no situation is the same. That’s why we offer a range of boarding options to suit your family’s needs. They include weekly, fortnightly, term-time and short breaks to offer respite care.

A ‘home from home’

Our residential bungalows are spacious and fully accessible, with in-built hoists, sensory areas, open-plan living spaces and a beautiful garden to enjoy. We offer a ‘home from home’, so rooms can be decorated and adapted to suit personalities and preferences.

Keeping in contact is so important and is encouraged at Chailey. Whether through FaceTime, WhatsApp or text message, you’ll be able to hear what your child has been up to – whether it’s cooking some tasty treats, playing their favourite video game or what music they listened to that week. Every young adult is allocated a key worker whilst living at Chailey, and they will be in regular contact with you.

Family and friends are always welcome to visit. If you need to stay overnight, we have studio apartments available.

A stepping stone to adulthood

Our aim is to provide young adults at Chailey with the skills, information and support they need to further develop their self-esteem, life skills, maturity and communication skills so that they can achieve greater independence.

Our team of expert specialists deliver a range of fun and educational activities that are adapted to each young adult's needs. Young adults are given every opportunity to make use of a wide-range of activities on-site, such as the hydrotherapy pool, the gym, our multi-sensory studio as well as taking part in skills-based activities, such as cooking sessions at the on-site activity centre.

Our specially adapted vehicles and minibuses mean that young adults can go on shopping trips and local excursions to further build their confidence and prepare them for adulthood.

Stories from Chailey

Meet Livvy

Livvy has been living at Futures Bungalows for three years now. The difference this provision has provided to Livvy and her family is second to none.

For us, it was about realising that it was in Livvy’s best interests because at Chailey Heritage Foundation she has such a full timetable of activities, accessing everything the activity centre has to offer, as well as going for trips off-site. She’s engaged, stimulated, and leading such a rich quality of life. Chailey Heritage Foundation has been an absolute lifeline and gone beyond our expectations
