We're here to help

Caring for a young adult with complex disabilities, medical and communications needs can impact a family in different ways.

Whilst you want to give your child the best care possible, it’s important to look after yourself.

Take a break from full-time care to rest and recharge, safe in the knowledge that your child is being supported by expert staff 24/7. Our short breaks also offer young adults the opportunity to have a break too. To meet others, take part in activities and have fun.

Our short breaks for young adults, aged 19 to 25, with complex disabilities takes place at our welcoming, spacious and age-appropriate residential bungalows in Chailey, East Sussex.

Our homely and relaxed environment offers young adults staying with us a ‘home from home’ where they can feel safe and comfortable. All bungalows are fully accessible, with in-built hoists, sensory areas, open plan living spaces to whizz around in, and a lovely garden to enjoy. When the weather is good, we get out the barbecue!

What activities are available during short breaks?

Young adults staying with us on a short break can use all our outstanding facilities and participate in fun activities, such as getting creative with our art and cooking sessions.  They can enjoy our hydrotherapy pool, take part in wheelchair football, discover a world of possibilities in our immersive space, and go on trips to local attractions.

What if my child needs nursing support whilst on a short break?

Our partnership with NHS Chailey Clinical Services, who are located on-site, means that 24/7 nursing support is available to our guests - whenever they need it.  They can access neurological consultants, nurses, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation engineers - all on one site.

What types of short breaks do Chailey Heritage Foundation offer?

Our short breaks include overnight stays from three to four nights a week. We request a minimum booking of one stay per month.

How do I access short breaks for young adults?

Access to short breaks at Chailey can vary depending on funding available. We can be approached by parents directly, through Local Authorities, case managers or continuing health care. Parents can fund overnight stays, and our day provisions, from personal budgets or privately.
