What started as a place to stay active after college has become a space where Ellis has discovered new talents, built confidence and found ways to give back.Ellis joined The Activity Place in September 2023 after leaving college. Looking for opportunities to keep busy, try new activities and meet people, he quickly became involved in many aspects of the programme. "I loved getting involved with the gym, games, art and cooking," - Ellis A year later, he also began using the swimming pool, combining his enjoyment of The Activity Place with his passion for keeping fit.But Ellis' connection to Chailey goes back much further. Having attended Chailey as a child, he felt a strong connection to the charity and wanted to contribute in a meaningful way. This inspired him to take the next step and become a volunteer. "I started volunteering and loved it because I felt like I was giving something back." - Ellis Volunteering has given Ellis the opportunity to support others and continue developing his confidence.When creative music sessions were introduced at The Activity Place, Ellis embraced the opportunity to explore songwriting and performance. What began as attending sessions soon developed into a creative outlet that has helped him express himself and showcase his talents. "The Activity Place introduced creative music sessions, which I loved because I began to write my own songs and I currently have half an album written." One of the highlights of Ellis' journey was performing live for the first time at Celebration Day. "I was able to perform for the first time on Celebration Day in front of my family, my friends, my students and of course the wonderful Jess, which was amazing." - Ellis Through both volunteering and music, Ellis has grown in confidence and developed skills that continue to shape his future. "I gained so much more confidence from the volunteering role and then writing and performing my own songs. I find it easier to express myself through music and I love everything." Ellis' story is a wonderful example of the opportunities available through The Activity Place.
