Good luck to our Brighton Marathon Runners!

09 April 2022

We would like to say a big good luck to Chloe and Ellie who are running the Brighton Marathon in aid of Chailey Heritage Foundation tomorrow. The girls have been training hard and are ready to take on the challenge. Here’s what running a marathon means to them.

Chloe says: ‘When I signed up for the marathon in 2019, it wasn’t in my plan to run 3 years later. I can’t believe I’m actually going through with it. With (most!) of the hard miles behind me, I feel so lucky and proud to be running on behalf of Chailey and raising awareness and some £££ for all of the fantastic work they do. My cousin Dan loved his time at Chailey and his smile will be getting me through the highs and lows I’m sure next Sunday will bring.

Not only will I be tackling 26.2 miles of prime Brighton turf on behalf of Chailey but I'll also be running in memory of my cousin Dan, who was one of the many lives Chailey helped to change. Whether it was dancing Dan round the room to the Fun Song Factory, sunny days spent inside at Bowlplex because it was his favourite thing to do or hours of the hokey cokey on repeat, not a minute of the day spent with Dan was boring and I'm hoping it's his infectious laugh that will get me through this challenge. When we went off to secondary school, Dan was given the opportunity to continue his education at Chailey, a place he absolutely adored, where he could swim, paint and talk about the car wash to his hearts content.'

Ellie will also be running for us on Sunday and this will be her first full marathon.

‘I have run regularly for about 3 years now - I started by signing up for a half marathon out the blue to raise money for another charity, and kind of kept going!! This will be my first marathon, so still a challenge, but an exciting one!!

When I worked as a support worker, I supported a couple of ladies to Chailey Leisure and Skills Centre, where they were able to develop living, independence and social skills and participate in activities that they thoroughly enjoyed.'
