Dom is a vibrant 22-year-old who has joined Chailey Heritage Foundation (CHF) in the summer after transitioning from Treloar’s College. Dom moved into Futures, CHF’s on-site residential bungalows for young adults.
“When Dom was leaving Treloar's there really wasn't anything around suitable - that's when I learnt about Futures and I thought it would be the ideal stepping stone into the big world for him.” - Mum, Stacey
Dom has Myofascial, Cerebral Palsy, Global development delay, a visual impairment, seizure disorder and Sleep Apnoea. Despite his many conditions, Dom always finds the fun in life and loves to connect with others.
Dom had a fantastic welcome party held by his new home-form-home, Nightingale bungalow. All his new bungalow friends and support team attended, and Dom charmed everyone with his hilarious sense of humour and vibrant personality.
It was not long before Dom began exploring all the different activities offered at Futures and the Leisure and Skills Centre (LSC). Starting with gym sessions and swimming, Dom has explored cooking, art, games, drama, drumming, music, yoga, sensory experiences, and even rebound therapy. While he’s taken to most activities, sound baths are not his favourite—he definitely prefers action to staying still!
His Mum Stacey says, “CHF has far exceeded our expectations - the staff are super proactive and always consult us if they have queries. Dom can no longer use a standing frame, but his support team was straight on it and arranged for him to use a standing sling which he loves as he can move about too.”
Recently, Dom enjoyed a special residential break in London with some of his bungalow friends! Complete with a visit to Winter Wonderland, the zoo, and an immersive art experience, it was the perfect time to connect with peers and relax while making room for fun, like ordering takeaways in the evenings.
Dom’s friendly and outgoing nature has already earned him a wide circle of friends. He enjoys crossing between different friendship groups, reflecting his gregarious character. He thrives in lively environments, enjoying the buzz of conversation and activity. Looking sharp at the Futures winter ball, Dom loved having fun with everyone, enjoying the disco, music, and lights.
We are delighted to see how well Dom has settled into Futures. His journey so far has been filled with exciting experiences, and his family and support team are incredibly proud of his positive attitude and willingness to embrace new experiences.
We can’t wait to see what he’ll achieve next!
