Sunday 22nd May saw our Focus 10K event make it’s first outing at a new venue; Vuggles Farm on Sutton Hall Estate.
Over 400 runners signed up to run for young people with complex neurodisabilites in either a 10K, 5K or Mini Mile and helped us raise a brilliant £16,000.
We had fantastic weather for the event with the sun shining all day – although it was hot for our runners out on the course!
The race village had a great atmosphere with lots of activities going on throughout the day including circus skills workshops, face painting and a drumming procession as well as a selection of catering vans to fuel our runners before and after the race. Many friends and families turned up to support their loved ones running the race including several of our young people here at Chailey Heritage Foundation.
Dan from Mind, Body, Fitness got everyone ready with his fantastic warm ups before runner congregated at the start line.
Allison Ferns kicked off the day by starting the Mini Mile dressed as the genie from Aladdin. The kids were raring to go and completed the race in record time. Next up was the 5K and 10K runners who began their race to the sound of the drums. The motivation was enough to get them up the hills in the heat and round the pictureeque course where they were cheered on by our marshalls and given much needed water.
There were lots of smiles from runners as they made their way round the course and over the finish line where they were presented with their finishing medal.
Catherine, a regular user of our Lesiure and Skills Centre gym, walked the 10K course with her mum and was given a massive cheer by our runners as she came down the finishing stretch. It was so lovely to see the fantastic support given to all runners who were in high spirits all day.
The last part of the day was the raffle and the prize giving ceremony where our top 3 winners for each race were announced.
Well done to all who took part and thank you to all our sponsors, suppliers, supporters, volunteers and staff who helped to make the day a success; we had a fantastic time!
