Hi! I'm Lesley, Farm Manager
I love that we are one of the only departments (possibly the only department), that gets to see every young person here at Chailey, that includes those that attend the school and our residents. We also have external visitors who come to the farm via the LSC and visit external community groups and schools. I particularly like seeing the impact that spending time on the farm has on the young people here at Chailey.
There are so many memories of amazing things that have taken place on Patchwork Farm, but I guess one of the standout ones was seeing a young person from the school choose to come out of his wheelchair, being supported by staff, and walking whilst draping himself over our Shetland pony, NicNac. This young person is visually and auditory impaired, the willingness for him to walk aided and to feel NicNac was a very special experience. He loved burying his face into Nicnac’s hair and smelling him, as well as running his fingers through NicNac’s thick mane. NicNac is a retired therapy pony but he still loves to interact with the young people here at Chailey.
The donkeys are my favourite animals on the farm, but please don’t tell the goats!
