We’d like to say a massive thank you to the lovely team of volunteers from BAM Nuttall who donated and planted 250 trees and shrubs on Patchwork Farm yesterday!
Thanks to their generosity and hard work, we can improve the biodiversity of the farm, by increasing the type and number of trees and shrubs in the ground. This in turn encourages more wildlife, providing food, shelter and natural corridors for a number of small mammals, birds and insects.
Once the trees and shrubs are established, they will provide natural forage for our donkeys, Shetland pony, sheep and goats as well as a screen and barrier from the main road that runs parallel to the farm.
Planting trees also helps to offset Chailey Heritage’s carbon footprint - a single tree offsets about 20kg of carbon dioxide a year. Reducing our carbon footprint is part of our ongoing commitment to the Chailey Carbon Challenge. Thank you so much BAM Nuttall, we hope you had a great day volunteering!
