Last Friday, bathed in glorious sunshine, Chailey Heritage Foundation held its annual Celebration Day. This is a special day when we recognise the efforts and achievements made throughout the year by all the pupils in school, and the young adults living on site.
This year’s theme was Our Planet and gave the children and young people the opportunity to explore and celebrate the many different environments of planet earth including the sea, the desert and the jungle. It also provided a wonderful excuse for some great, colourful outfits. We thought everybody looked fabulous!
The day started with a parade around the site in which all the children and young adults could participate. This was also live streamed, allowing family and friends to watch from home.
Many awards were presented throughout the day celebrating a number of tremendous achievements in areas such as communication, powered mobility, and swimming. We were delighted to be able to welcome on site a very limited number of family members who could share a special Leaver’s Ceremony with young people in the Hanbury department for whom this will be their last Celebration Day as school pupils.
Headteacher of Chailey Heritage School, Simon Yates, said: “We are so proud of the ambition and achievements of everyone at Chailey Heritage Foundation. Celebration Day is just one day a year, but the hard work and dedication of the staff and young people that lead to these achievements can take months, even years. This week we have featured just a few of the amazing young people’s stories, to offer insight into the challenges they work so hard to overcome. As always, we love to celebrate what we achieve together and look forward to sharing more inspiring stories and pictures with you from this year’s Celebration Day!”
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Celebration Day so special.
