Harriet has been developing her communication skills during her visits to Patchwork Farm.
We were looking to develop a clear yes/no static hand response with Harriet so we were looking for something motivational and different for her to try. She is very interested in the world around her so we combined static hands with work being planned on Patchwork Farm.
Because she was interested in the animals, she was engaged and determined to find out more. Intensive work asking questions with a communication partner using a Chailey Communication System (CCS) book on the farm allowed Harriet to make good progress, she was able to choose which animal she wanted t ostudy, and chose the Donkeys. Harriets progress allowed her progress to a high tech solution freeing up her communication partners hands, making for a more effiecent technique.
Harriet enjoyed finding out much more about Donkeys, inlcuding they eat and how they are cared for, leading to her creating a care package for a donkey, based on what she had learnt about them. In the future Harriet plans to find out about how Donkeys cope with Winter.
