A living memorial to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth has been planted in the grounds of Chailey Heritage Foundation by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex.
The tree which is an Alder was part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) “Tree of Trees” which stood tall as a message of hope, regeneration and optimism to the nation and the world as part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations.
Chailey Heritage Foundation joins over 300 organisations from across the UK to receive a tree in recognition of the charity’s contribution to the community. Three charities from East Sussex were chosen for the honour – CHF, Emmaus Brighton & Hove and Educations Futures Trust in Hastings.
The tree has been planted by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex at the charity’s site in North Chailey. The Lord-Lieutenant was accompanied by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Sara Stoner DL.
Over her 70 year reign, Queen Elizabeth planted hundreds of trees at public engagements. The Chailey tree now becomes part of the living legacy in honour of Her Majesty, joining more than a million trees already planted across the UK.
Gareth Germer, Chief Executive of Chailey Heritage, said, “We were delighted to welcome both the Lord-Lieutenant and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant to meet some of the young people and help us plant this special tree.”
