Thank you to everyone who supported our appeal to raise funds for a new wheelchair accessible vehicle. The vehicle is already being put to good use by young people with complex disabilities.
Young people like Holly, who is deaf along with having other disabilities, have been enjoying going out and about thanks to this great new resource. Holly uses the wheelchair accessible vehicle to go to the Talking Hands Café which holds regular get-togethers for deaf people where she has the opportunity to meet others with similar life experiences.
She also uses the vehicle on a weekly basis to travel to her work experience placement in a charity shop. Here she arranges donations, sorts out clothes and puts stock out in the shop. Not only is this good work experience, but it means that she gets out to meet others in the community too.
Previously we relied on large minibuses, which can be uncomfortable for long trips, as not all of the wheelchairs young people at Chailey Heritage Foundation use were small enough for our other wheelchair-accessible car.
We were able to purchase the new vehicle thanks to individuals, charitable trusts and community groups who all generously donated.
