LSC Gym - London Marathon Innowalk Challenge

We have a number of new gym customers who use the Innowalk in the gym at the LSC. We have set everyone a challenge of individually completing the marathon distance of 26.2 miles. In the pictures you can see Connor and Julia having fun on the Innowalk machine. The Innowalk is a new addition to the gym and the gym customers have been giving us great feedback about the machine.

Many have commented that they feel their lower body has felt a lot more relaxed following gym sessions and that their range of movement has increased. They also have really enjoyed having the sensation of being able to get out of their wheelchair and be taken into a standing position whilst the machine takes their legs around very similar to a cross trainer. Each customer is individually assessed before using the Innowalk to find out their user settings and is supported in the machine with legs, knee, hip and chest supports so they feel comfortably supported.

We now have 20 customer who use the Innowalk in the gym. The customers all access the gym through Futures, the Hub and are external customers from the community.

To keep track of everyone’s distance we have created a large map of the London Marathon route including all of the landmarks which you can see in the pictures. Each customer has a small picture of their face that we move along the marathon route each time they complete a distance. The race is hotting up at the minute and Connor has just taken the lead after completing 6km.
