In October 2019 the Dream Centre was opened on site here at Chailey Heritage Foundation by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. The centre is a state-of-the-art sports and arts facility where the young people who attend CHF services can access a wide range of physical activities including rebound therapy, wheelchair football, and boccia; as well as specially designed immersive experiences created by our designated content developer.
The immersive space, located on the Dream Centre’s stage, incorporates 360-degree floor-to-ceiling digital projection to help whisk service users away to far and distant lands. The space is also used for sensory storytelling, eye-tracking, and theatrical productions.
CHF’s fundraising department pulled out all the stops in order to raise the three million pounds required to fund the Dream Centre. It wasn’t long before it was recognised within the themed entertainment industry. In October 2021 the Dream Centre was awarded a prestigious Thea Award from the Themed Entertainment Association. You can read about that award here.
However, the immersive space is not just a fun space for the young people to use. It has become a key part of the learning day for many of the pupils attending Chailey Heritage School.
Watch the video featuring one of CHF’s teachers, Carol Llewellyn, as she explains how the Dream Centre’s immersive space has benefited Max, one of her class pupils. For more information on how you can help us continue to provide this service please contact our fundraising team here.
